Durkin's journey began in 1904 when Patrick Durkin, an Irish immigrant, and his son Denis started the company in a humble barn on Mallory Street, Danbury, CT. Originally, the company manufactured supplies for Danbury's renowned hatting industry but soon recognized the local demand for shading products. Denis eventually passed the company to his son, William Durkin, and his daughter Rita's husband, Bernard Ginty, in 1955. In 1976, the Ginty family took full ownership, coinciding with William Durkin's retirement.

Since 1999, Durkin's has been headquartered on Beaver Brook Road in a state-of-the-art 16,000 sq. ft. design and fabrication facility. This location enables them to exercise complete control over their products, ensuring superior quality, on-time delivery, and competitive prices.
