Originally part of a 740-acre land grant to the Benson family by Lord Baltimore in the late 1600s, the property evolved into Oak Hall after a portion was sold to the Harper Family in 1884. The Harpers began running the Hotel as a boarding house in 1902, where guests would travel by steamship and train to reach the inn.
